On January 1, 1998 the Isanti Fire Department made significant changes to its managerial procedures. These changes resulted in the transformation into the Isanti Area Joint Operating Fire District, or the Isanti Fire District. This mutually agreed on joint powers agreement has been the foundation to an efficient working relationship between all entities, 6 Townships and the City of Isanti, who are protected by the Department. Each entity has 1 elected representative who attends monthly fire board meetings where together they make the decisions that govern the Fire Departments operations. Monthly, the operating board receives a report from its Fire Chief, Treasurer, discusses/votes on payables, and discusses old and new business as it pertains.
Isanti Fire is continually pushing to maintain the highest level of active and trained firefighters which in turn provides the best service possible. As of our most recent Insurance Services Office (ISO) evaluation, Isanti Fire is classified as a Public Protection Class (PPC) 4 in its water hydrant areas, and a 6 in the rural areas within 5 miles of one of the 3 stations. Those that live within 1,000 feet of a hydrant recieve a 4, over 1,000 feet and within 5 road miles of one of our stations is a 6 and beyond that is an ISO 10.
